  Johnson commits to the Storm!!

Dallas Johnson recently put pen to paper to a new three year deal which will see him at the Melbourne Storm until the end of 2011. After contemplating several good offers from Super League in England the desire to continue playing State of Origin and making the World Cup Tests team at the end of the year was too much to pass up. Another major factor in his decision was the fact that in 2009 Dallas will have been with Melbourne for 10 seasons after having signed his first Storm deal in late 1999. Loyalty is a big thing for Dallas and the recent resigning of Craig Bellamy would make him pretty happy also.

  Natalie pursues her dream!!

She will compete at the Sydney International Three Day Event, one of only two qualifiers for Beijing in Australia. The program detail can be found on the following link http://www.sydneyeventing.org/.

Natalie is one of only 3 competitors from Queensland in the Three Star Class out of a class of 35. The team at Rocksolid Sports would like to wish her all the best in her quest for Olympic selection.

The Demolition Man returns to the ring!!

Demolition Dave Turner is planning a return to the ring but this time it will be in the professional ranks.

During a rewarding amatuer career David competed at the Manchester Commonwealth Games and two World Championships as Australia's Heavyweight and Super Heavyweight Champion. He retired in 2004 after a long amatuer career and resisted the opportunity to turn pro unlike some of his Australian team mates including Danny Green, Jason De Lyle and Paul Miller.

Now after several months sparring with Australian Heavywieght, Nathan Briggs the desire has been rekindled and he is looking to make his professional debut in June at the Broncos Leagues Club or the Mansfield Tavern. The card will be telecast live on Fox Sports and I am sure there will be some interested viewers keen to see how he performs.

Maxwell scores first win at Colliers

Within just four weeks of starting with Colliers International, former professional tri-athlete Levi Maxwell has scored his first win. Maxwell, whose professional career saw him travel the world and receive a ranking in the top 20, has finalised his first deal, the lease of a property at 2/8 Boyland Ave in Coopers Plains for $52,000.

When wrapping up his sporting career, Levi said he was drawn to the commercial property market because it had all the facets he enjoyed in sport. In choosing Colliers International, Levi said he started to investigate his options around 12 mths ago and the agency seemed a natural fit.

RockSolid lends a hand at National Oz Tag Championships

RockSolid Sports managing director Mark Rockley took time out to participate with the Sth East Qld Marlins who competed at the National Oz Tag Championships in Coffs Harbour during November. A host of Mark’s former team mates form Brisbane Souths Rugby League made up the side including Ian Turner, Michael Davis, Gavin Darwin, Mark Lane, Mohammed Allouche, and Brent Vincent. The scorelines were not flattering but it was a lot of fun catching up with some old mates. Gavin Darwin took out the Player of the Series award for his outstanding efforts throughout the weekend.

Matthews hits the podium at Noosa!!

Paul Matthews has backed up a stellar International touring season to return home and continue his good form. After a win in the Gold Coast Half Ironman Triathlon, Paul backed up a few weeks later to secure 3rd spot on the podium at the Noosa Triathlon. Taking on some of world’s best triathletes Paul had a moderate swim before consolidating in ride and then used his strength in the run to pull back the places to secure third behind Craig Walton and David Dellow. Paul previous best finish at Noosa was 10th in 2006. He credits much of his good form this season to his improved running.

Premiership and Test Jumper for Johnson!!

Dallas Johnson has had a dream season with a successful series win with the Qld State of Origin Side a Premiership with the Melbourne Storm and to top it off selection in the Test team to play New Zealand in the Trans Tasman Test. Not to many get to experience a season like that and Dallas is well aware of the enormity of his achievements. The Australian Test Jumper will be his prize possession over the Premiership Ring as he has always had the desire to represent his country at the highest level. He has accomplished everything in the game now and from here on in it will be business as usual. Dallas is pretty modest about his ability and will not get carried away by his success.

Equine Influenza sets schedule back at least 5mths...

Natalie and Archie have had a major set back in there quest to reach the Beijing Olympics with the Equine Influenza outbreak proving a major setback. Natalie and Archie were competing at the World Cup event at Warwick when the outbreak occurred and were stranded for two months as the DPI quarantined all horses around the country. Natalie needed only qualify second at Warwick to earn a start at the World Cup event in Europe but things went pear shaped after day one of the event. It has also hit pretty hard financially as Natalie was off work for a long period and to add to the problem her Olympic campaign is up in the air as Archie’s training schedule has been set back at least 5 months.

  Mission Completed...

The TEN10 Challenge for 2007 wrapped up on July 1 at the Gold Coast Marathon with the Soul 10klm run as the final hurdle for all the challengers. It was a great day and congratulations to all the competitors on their effort to not only finish but compete with maximum effort. Levi Maxwell was the shining light running the 10klms in 32mins 38secs and coming 12th overall. It was only ten weeks ago that some of our members could not run for 2 minutes let alone a 10km road race. They came a very long way, physically and mentally. We have now come to the end of the Journey. What a very enjoyable 10 weeks and congratulations to everyone on their achievements.

  Dallas tackles another series win!

RockSolid's own Dallas Johnson tackled his way into history as well as helping Qld to another State of Origin series win. 62 tackles during game two in Sydney was a State of Origin record and a milestone that Dallas would be very proud of considering a couple of his heros were tackling machines. Trevor Gillmiester and Wally Fullerton Smith are players Dallas looked up to as a kid and to now stand along side them in the history books as one of the state's best defenders is something he would never have dreamed of. His form throughout the series was oustanding and to come back from a severe head knock on the opening minute of game 3 indicates what a great warrior he is. Hopefully his form will carry through and earn him a Test jumper later this year.

Matthews setting the pace in the US...

Paul Matthews has started his international campaign for 2007 with two podium finishes in US half ironman events over the past 2 months. Paul is a regular on the Australian Tri circuit and each year heads over to Europe to compete against the worlds best triathletes. This year he has turned to half marathon events after a confident boosting race while in Europe in 2006.

The decision has reaped instant rewards with two second placings to another Australian Chris Leigh. Paul has set the pace in both races and the results have been the same with Chris leigh getting the better of him in the later stages of the race. In the second event Paul would be happy with his run time of 1:15:16 for the half marathon run.

Natalie & Archie right on track!!

Natalie Siiankoski and her horse Archie have continued to mount a challenge for selection in the Australian equestrian team with a resounding win at the Melbourne International 3 day event a month ago. Trailing the leaders by a small margin after the dressage event Natalie and Archie secured the win after a perfect round in the Show Jumping and a faultless display in the Cross Country. This win was against some of Australia's best equestrian riders so it will really enhance her chances of making the squad in 2008.

The Alien hits the podium in Singapore!!

Although in semi retirement Levi Maxwell cannot shake the competitive bug. A last minute decision to jump on a plane to Singapore has reaped dividends with a 3rd Place to Australia's Courtney Atkinson who finished 1st and ahead of Brad Bevan who came in 4th in an elite triathlon on the weekend of May 27.

Training only part time and a relaxed approach maybe part of this success but I am sure it will start the fire in the belly for a return to more competitive racing when the time is right. Elite athletes like Levi cannot stay away from the action for to long. The competitive nature and drive never really disappears. So don't be surprised to see Levi back sooner rather than later.

  Dallas Johnson in top form!!

Dallas Johnson's form so far in 2007 has been one of the major reasons why the Melbourne Storm are battling for the lead at the top of the NRL premiership ladder. It also earned him selection in the Queensland State of Origin side for the second year running dispite the abundance of form players available for Qld to pick from.

Dallas was unlucky not to make selection in the Australian side last year overlooked for Reni Matua but his form so far this year almost demands selection if he can carry it through till the end of the season.

David Aitken Benefit Night - 2 June 2007

On January 18th 2007 David was diagnosed with Omentum Adenocarcinoma which is an extremely rare form of bowel and stomach cancer. Due to the type of cancer, how rapidly it has spread and the extent of the growth, David has been told his type of cancer is in-operable and that radium is not an option. David is currently under going chemotherapy but due to further complications he is only able to have a lower grade chemotherapy which is statistically only 20% effective. He has 4 boys , one 12, 10 and twin 6 year olds whom also enjoy following in Dad's footsteps and are involved in Junior Rugby League. Prior to this David was an active parent/coach for junior league. His love and passion for the game has always been a major part of his life and throughout his years of playing he has gained many lifelong friends.

As a friend and former team mate of David I would like to host this event as a way of getting as many family and friends together to support a mate who is doing it a bit tough at the moment. Medical costs for his treatment are putting a strain on him and his family and if we can all get together a raise some funds to help in his time of need it will help enormously. The opportunity to catch up with family, friends and former team mates will also give David a good boost.

You will find more information about the event we have planned if you visis our Event Management page. If you can help out by taking a table that would be great and we are also looking for any donations for our Auction and or Multi Draw Raffle. Sponsorship of the event is also available.

Natalie and Jackson replace Buck at the Broncos..

Natalie and her horse Jackson have replaced the Old Buck at the Broncos after his retirement at the end of 2006. Jackson another one of Natalie's stable of horses will perform at each of the Broncos home games and will retain the name of Buck for the Broncos Supporters. Jackson was selected due to his quiet nature and after 5 homes games he is really starting to settle in to his new found stardom. This opportunity is also a good way to increase exposure for Natalie as she works towards the Beijing Olympics in 2008. Already she has had plenty of exposure featuring on Channel 9's News, Nova 106.9FM, as well as a feature article in the Broncos Magazine.

  Natalie Plans for 2007...

Natalie Siiankoski and her champion horse, Archie are both well, and Archie is just returning to work after a short layoff due to injury. Their competition schedule for the year is quite busy. In April they are going to NSW to compete at Berrima CIC One Day Event to qualify for the Melbourne International as Qld does not have any CIC events in the first half of the year to qualify. Their next big trip is Melbourne International Three Day Event in June, followed by the Qld States in July. The Warwick World Cup Qualifier is in August and the Sydney International is in September. The last event for the year is the Adelaide International Three Day Event held in November. Natalie and Archie are aiming to go 4 Star here as it is the only 4 Star event in the southern hemisphere. However they do have to qualify for this at the Melbourne and Sydney International 3 Day Events at 3 Star Level.

At the end of the Eventing Season last year Natalie was ranked as the Saddleworld Champion Young Rider for 2006. This was 38 points in front of the next young rider on the leader board. You can find attached the page from The Horse Magazine Feb 2007.

Natalie has also secured the opportunity to present and ride the new Buck at the Broncos home games. This will enable her to lift her profile and secure a little more support. Her first commitment here will be the Broncos Fan Day when the new Buck is unveiled and presented to the fans.

Outside competition Natalie has a couple of young horses that will be moving up the grades throughout the year so fingers crossed they will be just as successful as Archie.

He is still in training and continues to race in a low key fashion. After a long career he is enjoying the break from the constant grind of Professional Triathlon. Who knows we may see Levi back if he gets the bug to race again.
